For the primary teachers teaching about peace: Happy International Peace Day

I taught the 5 year old Primary class today.
Before I could even say welcome to class a tiny 5 year old girl in a flower dress blurted out "My daddy goes to UVU and a man got shot in the neck there this week and died because he said hateful things about brown people."
She isn't old enough to read.
That's a lot to unpack.
Our lesson was on peace.
I wore a t-shirt with the word "PEACE" on it.
I showed them my button (from the Mormon Women for Ethical Government press conference I went to) that said "Peacemaker at work"
We learned how to do the 2 finger peace symbol.
I read a scripture and every time it said "peace" they had to "stand up for peace."
We learned that Jesus had a nickname: The Prince of Peace.
I brought in my button maker and they each made their own "peacemaker" buttons and they wrote, in their little baby handwriting, "peace" on them. They drew hearts and stars and flowers.
A dad sitting in on the lesson made a peace button too.
Happy International Day of Peace.
